Guide

Your first lesson

What to expect, what it costs and how booking works, for anyone starting a sport or coming back to one.

Choosing a coach

  • Check the sport and level they teach, and the ages on their card, for example "Ages 5+".
  • Look at where they coach. Their profile lists every club and court they use.
  • See their checks. "Police vetted" and "First aid" mean we have checked current certificates.
  • Read reviews. They come only from people who booked that coach.

What it costs

  • Lessons on CoachPlus run from $80 a session, set by each coach.
  • There is no booking fee on top. You pay the price shown.
  • Group sessions and term packages usually cost less per session than a private lesson.

How booking and payment work

  • Pick a time that suits on the coach's profile and book online.
  • Your card is held when you book and charged once your coach confirms. If they never confirm, you are not charged.
  • Bookings more than 7 days away and group sessions are charged when you book, and refunded in full if you cancel in time.

Cancelling

  • Each coach sets a cancellation window, 24 hours unless they choose otherwise. Your booking shows the exact cut-off.
  • Cancel before it and you are refunded in full. Inside it, the booking stands and the coach is paid for the time.
  • If the coach cancels, you are always refunded in full.

What to bring

  • Comfortable clothes and the right shoes for the surface, and a water bottle.
  • Ask your coach whether to bring your own racquet, club or ball. Many have spares for a first lesson.
  • Arrive ten minutes early so you start on time.
